Honors Designation
An Honors Designation option is available to all students who wish to pursue advanced studies in Physical Science. The student who chooses the honors option in ninth grade physical science is willing to engage in challenging educational experiences by going beyond the common core standards and next generation science standards especially in the areas of critical thinking, analysis, and application of context concepts. Further, their willingness to learn is manifested in a positive attitude and exemplary work habits. Honors designation will be noted on the students report card and high school transcript and will weight the grade accordingly.

In order to receive honors designation:
To be considered eligible for honors designation in physical science, students must meet the following expectations:
1. On any summative performance assessment (unit test, common task, etc), an Honors students will achieve a minimum score of proficient or a numerical score of an 80%. An Honors student may have the opportunity to revise the assessment following the ninth grade academy revision policy.
2. An Honors student will take a modified mid-year and final exam, with additional questions that emphasize mathematical applications as well as critical thinking skills.
3. An Honors student must watch the podcast posted on the website for each unit. Additional questions will be completed to go along with the podcast and must be completed for each unit.
4. An Honors student will take part in each of the STEM Nights (semester 1-Rube Goldberg Machine, semester 2- Bridge Building)
